Thomas Regout International BV has a long history of sustainability and social responsibility. A couple of years ago we have fulfilled all ISO 14001 requirements and received this certification.
In order to get sustainability and social responsibility to an even higher level, we have investigated where we are now and how we should improve in the near future.
Together with independent certified consultants and a customer we have investigated our level of a Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certification. C2C Certification provides a company with a means to tangibly, credibly measure achievement in environmentally-intelligent design and helps customers purchase and specify products that are pursuing a broader definition of quality. This means using environmentally safe and healthy materials; design for material reutilization, such as recycling or composting; the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency; efficient use of water, and maximum water quality associated with production; and instituting strategies for social responsibility. For example: what to do with telescopic slides in a kitchen that needs to be replaced? Can these ball bearing slides be used in another product? Or when this slide will be thrown away is it biodegradable?
These are all kinds of questions that are important for the Cradle to Cradle certification that could be a method to improve our social responsibility in the near future.
